What is the appointment process?

Appointments are required, and can be made by ringing the clinic on 9857 7417, online with HealthEngine, or in person at the clinic with reception. A standard consultation is 15 minutes, you will need to book a longer appointment if required.

Some doctors will require a longer appointment (30 mins) for the following; Multiple health issues, Surgical Procedures, Pap smears, Travel Advice, Some care plans, Health Checks

If you are unsure of how long your appointment should be, please ring the clinic on 9857 7417 and a receptionist will be able to help you.

A reminder text will be sent out the day before an appointment, unless no mobile number is recorded in which case a receptionist will ring to confirm.

The Doctors of this Clinic strive to provide the best possible care. Although we try to book appointments accordingly, some situations and problems are unprecedented, causing occasional wait times.  If we are running late we ask your understanding, in the knowledge that you too will receive the same personal and careful attention. If you feel that you may require longer than the standard 15 minute consultation, then you are welcome to book a longer time.

How do I get my results

At Balwyn Road Family Medical Centre, it is recommended to make an appointment with your Doctor to receive and discuss your test results. This will enable your Doctor to inform you of the results and support your health with the appropriate plan.

You will receive a SMS once we have received your results. If needed, you can ring the clinic to check if the results have been received.

A receptionist can tell you whether you need an urgent appointment, a non-urgent appointment or whether the doctor marked all results as normal and does not require a review appointment.

Please remember that for any further questions or discussions you need to make a review appointment with your doctor.

Do you have on-site Pathology

Balwyn Road Family Medical Centre have arrange St Vincent’s Pathology onsite for your ease and convenience.

Pathology Collection Availability:

9.00 am – 6:00 pm Monday to Friday
9.30 am – 1.00 pm Saturday

Bookings are not required.

Most services are bulk-billed to our patients holding Medicare cards. There may be a fee for some specialised tests not covered by Medicare.

Do I need an appointment for a repeat script?

For a repeat script, you will need an appointment with your doctor. Both face to face and telehealth options are available for your convenience.

After Hours Medical Care?

If non-urgent, please use our online booking feature to book an appointment the next business day. 

However, if you need urgent medical care outside of our business hours, 13SICK National Home Doctor 137 425(13SICK) can help. The doctors treat patients with acute, episodic conditions (e.g. gastro, UTI, migraine, respiratory infections) on weeknights, weekends and public holidays.

Emergencies

In the case of an EMERGENCY, patients should dial 000 for an ambulance or call their local public hospital Emergency Department.
Patients can access the 24 hour Emergency Department at the following hospitals :- Box Hill Hospital Emergency Hospital on (03) 8804 9999, or Austin Hospital Emergency Department on (03) 9496 5500.

Important notes

  • Full payment of the private fee is expected at the end of each consultation, after which you will then receive your Medicare rebate.
  • All patients 15 years of age and under Health Care Card, and 70 years of age and over with a Pensioner Concession Card will be bulk billed.
  • All patients between the ages of 16 and 69 years of age with a Health Care Card or Pension Card will be bulk billed for medical services and some procedures.
  • All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients with a health care card will be bulk billed.
  • Health Care Card holders must carry their valid card with them to all appointments.
  • On Weekends and Public Holidays, no Bulk Billing services available. All consultations will attract a Gap fee.

Additional Fees

This Practice prides itself on providing high quality care and as a result there may be additional costs for the following:

  • Treatment room fee for clinical procedures
  • Brief treatment room nurse appointments
  • Wound care products and other consumable items
  • Specific administrative requests
